The company has been making its social contribution, helping to alleviate the difficult job conditions in the North-Eastern rural zone, by offering several job opportunities, both temporary (clearing, harvesting) or permanent, including female labor; and paying fair salaries.

The farm always invests in the professional recycling of its employees; an example is the Basic Course in Biological and Dynamic Agriculture at the headquarters of the Elo Institute, in Botucatu, which our technical manager attended

Soon, a training course for food handlers will be offered to those employees who work in direct contact with food products, aiming to achieve better hygienic and sanitary control of the products processed on the farm.

Contacts with the local community are emphasized; frequent visits of municipal school students to the farm, with field days and technical guidance, are favored.

In 2000, Mocó Agropecuária participated effectively, making its premises available and enabling access to its Private Nature Reserve, for a course in environmental education given to over 60 teachers and health agents from the Municipality of Santa Terezinha, with a view to providing them with tools to propagate knowledge of the subject. The course was organized by the Municipality, the State of Paraíba Environmental Education Network, and Tamanduá Farm.

Internal celebrations are frequently held, especially "festas juninas" (traditional parties in the month of June) and weddings.

Trio Tamanduá

The "Trio Tamanduá ", a country band playing the typical forró music, formed by Rubens, a singer and cowboy, Naldinho, an accordion player and carpenter, and Nego Téu, zabumba drum player and farm worker, as well as Luiz Alves de Souza, known as "Dérreis", shoeshine boy from Patos, have had their music recorded in CD form. In this way they recorded the joy they bring to the sertão with their own outlook on life, saudade (nostalgia) and love.

THE FUTURE

Our wish is to better disseminate Organic Agriculture in our region, making Tamanduá Farm a technical reference center, making use of our technical and marketing knowledge in relation to organic products, using our packaging infrastructure. In 2001, a small producer decided to follow our example, planting 5 hectares with mango trees.

In addition, Mocó Agropecuária Ltda. decided to follow the path of bio-dynamic agriculture at Tamanduá Farm, following the philosophical principles of the scientific humanist Rudolf Steiner, and planning the farm in accordance with the concept of an "agricultural organism".

We decided it would be feasible to practice, in the "drought polygon", a different type of agriculture, which has as its principle the integration of natural agricultural resources in connection with the cosmic forces and their diverse forms of spiritual and ethical values. Thus, we may achieve a closer understanding of the relations between farming and the life styles of one of the harshest regions of Brazil.

Already in possession of organic certification, we are starting to produce and use dynamized compounds, a type of agricultural homeopathy made from crystals and medical plants – constituting a phytotherapy in which plants fulfill their role better. This is carried out under the guidance and care of the Biodynamics Institute, and of colleagues and friends such as Alexandre Harkaly, Richard Charity and João Volkmann.

The "Tamanduá Farm Organism", with its diverse flora and fauna, its beautiful landscapes, perfectly integrating cattle raising, agriculture and fruit-growing, will become a reality, enabling us to obtain the DEMETER certification, the culmination of the process we have started.
